Connecting the North East – 05.12.23

17:30-19:00 5th December 2023
ROOM TBC House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

There is a clear and present need to improve transport connectivity in the North East and across the North as a whole There is no doubt that under-investment in transport in the North East has left it behind other regions in terms of transport connectivity. Its transport network is failing its people, its communities and its businesses. The fact that you can reach almost 4 times as many jobs within 30 minutes by public transport in Greater London than in Tyne and Wear is stark evidence of the prevailing inter and intra regional disparities which exist in the North East.

This North East APPG session is designed to build consensus amongst North East MPs, Peers and political and business leaders on the North East’s transport priorities and call on the Government to commit to better bus services, re-opening the Leamside Line and assess what ‘Network North’ really means for the North East’s ambitions to boost growth.

We already know that greater connectivity delivers greater access to skills, high quality jobs and greater productivity. To unlock its full potential, the North East must attract and retain talent and that means we need investment in faster and world-class transport to better connect our people and places to education, skills, jobs and opportunities.

This will be a timely and valuable session, and the first in our ‘manifesto series.  I very much hope that you will be able to join us. To find out more about the North East APPG and how to get involved, please contact or look at our website. To RSVP, click here.
