Founded in 2023, the NE APPG brings together political and business leaders to build consensus and drive future investment and growth for the benefit of the communities throughout the North East region. 

Kate Osborne MP

Co-Chair

Kate Osborne is a Labour MP for the constituency of Jarrow, which she has represented since 2019. Before becoming an MP, she was a councillor on North Tyneside Council from 2010. She is the Co-Chair of the NE APPG. 

Lord Beith

Co-Chair

Lord Beith is a Life Peer in the House of Lords, who represented the seat Berwick-upon-Tweed from 1973-2015. From 1992-2003 he was Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He is the Co-Chair of the NE APPG. 

Ian Levy MP

Ian Levy is a Conservative MP for the constituency of Blyth Valley, where he was born and has represented since 2019. He is the Vice-Chair of the NE APPG.

Julie Elliott MP

Julie Elliot is a Labour MP for the constituency Sunderland Central, where she was born and has represented since 2010. She is the Vice-Chair of the NE APPG.

Mary Kelly Foy MP

Mary Kelly Foy is a Labour MP for the City of Durham, where she has represented since 2019. She was born in Jarrow, County Durham. She is an Officer for the NE APPG.

Chi Onwurah is the Labour MP for the constituency of Newcastle upon Tyne Central, which she has represented since 2010. She was born in Wallsend, North Tyneside. She is an Officer of the NE APPG.

Paul Howell MP

Paul Howell is the Conservative MP for the constituency of Sedgefield, which he has represented since 2019. He was born in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. Before becoming an MP he was a councillor on the Durham County Council. He is an Officer of the NE APPG

Mary Glindon MP

Mary Glindon is the Labour MP for the constituency of North Tyneside, which she has represented since 2010. Before becoming an MP she was a councillor on the North Tyneside Council for 15 years. She is an Officer of the NE APPG.

Emma Lewell-Buck MP

Emma Lewell-Buck is the Labour MP for the constituency of South Shields, which she has represented since 2013. Before becoming an MP she was a social worker and councillor on the South Tyneside Council for 9 years. She is an Officer of the NE APPG.

Catherine McKinnell MP

Catherine McKinnell is the Labour MP for the constituency for Newcastle upon Tyne North, where she was born and has represented since 2010. Before becoming an MP she was a solicitor at a Newcastle law firm. She is an Officer of the NE APPG.

Baroness Grey-Thompson

Baroness Grey-Thompson is a Life Peer, TV presenter and former wheelchair racer. In 2021 she was appointed Chair of the North of Tyne Combined Authority’s Inclusive Economy Board and has been Chancellor of Northumbria University since 2015. She is an Officer of the NE APPG.

Lord Wrigglesworth

Lord Wrigglesworth is a Liberal Democrat life peer after being appointed in 2013.  He was the MP for Stockton South from 1974-1983.

Lord Curry

Lord Curry is a Crossbench life peer in the House of Lords, where has sat since 2011 on behalf of the the County of Northumberland. He is the former chair of NFU Mutual.
